More research

Overlapping colours overlapped on a black and white photograph. Could be used for my personal logo spreads.

Coloured squares overlapped on a black and white photograph. This technique could be very relevant to my corporate re-brand.

Large black and white font works quite well for an editorial.

Research: Jamie Reid

Jamie Reid is a graphic designer who did the art work for the Sex Pistols, a punk band from the 70's. I really like his style and I can see a few similarities to David Carson's work.

Research: Ray Gun

This is just a selection of some of the covers and spreads from the magazine Ray Gun, designed by David Carson. I usually gravitate towards more simple and minimalist design but this style really appeals to me. It's chaotic, loose and experimental but has a very strong visual appeal. The combination of various fonts is also very interesting and is aesthetically strong. This design style suits alternative music very well as it has that grunge or punk look. I plan to interview my dad who was the bassist in a band in the 80's, and toured the UK for a period. This kind of style would suit the subject matter very well.

I plan to combine digital fonts and effects with more traditional materials; inks, paints, pen etc. The goal of my interview spread will be to present an overall consistent style, which is loose and experimental and true to the punk/grunge image. Making sure the actual wording of the interview is clear and readable is not a high priority.
